Introduction

The upper Dolpo trek is open for the tourist in 1989 only for them. It lies in the Shey Phoksundo National Park, it goes through 4000m,this trek helps to experience more about natural sides. After observing Shey Phoksundo Lake upper Dolpo trek combines with a Shey Gompa. Upper Dolpo trek is difficult and challenging which is situated in the western part of Nepal. This side is rich in culture and provides an enormous opportunity to know about the culture, lifestyle,Landscape of the Dolpo region.

The main theme of this trek is to explore more about the people living there and know about their culture as well as be participate. The people wear woolen chubas, topi, hats and amazing aprons. They are well trained in craft, art and many more. It is the challenging place where it requires physically fitness trekkers to do trekking. There are endangered animals like snow leopard, deer, sheep in blue. The national park is Shey Phoksundo park. The uppers Dolpo trek is opened for tourist in 1989. There you can see that people living there are independent and work accordingly.

Thus, this trek brings lots of memories to collect and enjoy in future by remembering the memories that you have collected before.

Trip Itinerary

Arrival in Kathmandu – 1,300 m / 4,265 ft

Upon arriving in Kathmandu, the bustling capital city of Nepal, you will immediately be captivated by its vibrant energy and rich cultural heritage. As you step out of the airport, we will be there to welcome you. The journey from the airport to your hotel is an opportunity to soak in the sights and sounds of this enchanting city. Finally, you arrive at your hotel, where a warm welcome awaits. The traditional architecture and modern amenities blend seamlessly to create a comfortable retreat. The hotel staff greets you with friendly smiles and ensures a seamless check-in process. As you settle into your room, you can unwind and reflect on the day’s journey, excited for the adventures that lie ahead in this vibrant city.

Fly from Kathmandu – Nepalgunj   –  1,400 meters (4,600 feet) 

After our short tour of Kathmandu, we depart from Kathmandu for a one-hour flight to Nepalgunj, located in western Nepal. Located near the Nepal-India border, Nepalgunj is also the gateway to Simikot in Humla. The city itself is an interesting Terai city that showcases the diverse culture of Nepal. In Nepalgunj we visit the local market, mini zoo and nearby villages. Overnight at Nepalgunj.

Trek to Dunai – 2,140 meters (7,020 feet)

We continue walking to Dunai, the administrative seat of the Dolpo region. We explore the small town in the evening and camp there for the night.

Trek Dunai to Chhekpa – 2,140 meters (7,020 feet) 

On the first day of the adventure, it takes a little more time to put all the luggage. After crossing the Bher river bridge, there is a road on the left that takes us to Shulighat, the entry point of the Shey Phoksundo National Park. The trail follows the Phoksundo Khola and passes through several small settlements to Chhepka.

Trek start from Sulighat – 2,140 meters  to Phoksundo Lake – 3,611 meters 

we go to Shey Phoksundo, the deepest lake in Nepal. We walk along a straight path to Phoksundo Lake. We ascend to the cedar forest of Palam. Palam is a rural settlement of Ringmo villagers. First we descend to a height of about 3300 meters. Then we climb to a ridge at about 3,875 meters, from where the most amazing views of Nepal’s highest 300-meter waterfall and the first Phoksundo lake, a turquoise survey. We then descend through birch forests to the upper parts of the Phoksundo Khola and on to the picturesque settlement of Ringmo with its mud plasters and Mani walls. Now the village has solar panels that help improve the quality of life of the villagers. It is a short walk from the settlement to the shores of Lake Phoksundo, where the camps are set up.

Trek from Numagung – 4,440 meters  through Shey – 4,126 meters

We have to cross a 5000 meter high pass called Shey-La. The trail then begins to zigzag over bare rocks and rough weathered ground. After that, the road descends to the pasture. This marks our approach to Numagung.

 Trek towards Saldang – 3,900 meters (12,795 feet)

The trek takes us to climb steeply up, reaching 4700 meters it seems very difficult. Then we walk through the charming village of Saldang. It is one of the largest villages in the region, strategically located along the trade route to Tibet.

Trek to Dho Tarap – 4,070 meters (13,385 feet)

The trail descends from the gorge, descending first gradually, then steeply towards the Tarapi Valley. Another 2 hours walking from Tokyo Goan we reach Dho-Tarap (the highest village in Dolpo) and the junction where the route goes to Jomsom, Mustang and Tibet.

Trek to Serkam – Remote Area 

The trail leads down into a windy gorge along the Tarapi River. Both sides have overhanging ridges; sometimes it even disappears between and under the hills. The road passes through narrow gorges with a fast river. Many mules, horses and yaks are encountered on the freight trail. In the afternoon, construction works on the road seem to have improved and a modern steel bridge can be seen to facilitate the movement of people and animals.

Trek to Dunai – 2,140 meters (7,020 feet)

The route is easy to follow with a gradual slope along the river bank. The trail sometimes climbs to the top of the mountain and sometimes deep down to the level of the Danube River Spaceway.

Trek to Juphal – 2,475 meters (8,120 feet)

The route follows the steps to Juphal as you go up the hill. Walk along the highway to Kala gouda. The steep ascent to Juphal passes through cultivated rice fields.

Early morning we will fly to Nepalgunj. This is a spectacular 35-minute flight in the foothills of the Himalayas, with spectacular views of the main peaks, including Annapurna and Dhaulagiri to the north. You will then board a connecting flight back to Kathmandu.

Back to Kathmandu 

A day can be a safety day if a flight is disrupted. Alternatively, you will have the opportunity to explore the cultural heritage of Kathmandu if you arrive on schedule.

Following your morning meal, our representative will ensure your timely arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward flight. If your plans involve an extended stay in Nepal or a late departure, kindly be aware that the hotel’s check-out time is at 11 am.
