Introduction

Tsum Valley trek is one of world’s remotest Himalayan Valleys which was also a restricted region. The Tsum Valley trekking takes you into the great majestic surroundings of the Ganesh Himal, Shiringi Himal, and Boudha Himal ranges. On trek you will discover the secret Tibetan Buddhist land lying at the edge of one of the most hidden Himalayan valleys.

The people of Tsum Valley “Tsumbas” belong to Tibetan origin with their own ancient form of dialect, art, culture and religion. Only Very few trekker have made it to this high and mysterious valley. Valley lies on the northern part of Manaslu and used to be a restricted area until 2008.

The Tsum Valley Trek itinerary begins with a drive from Kathmandu to barpak and you hike through notable small villages such as laprak. Singla  , Khorlabeshi, Tatopani, Dobhan, and Jagat. Some sections of the trekking trail are well-decorated with artistic mani walls carved with prayers flags and images of deities, colorful prayer flags, and chortens.  And trail pass through dense wood forests, expansive meadows, wild flora, snow-clad mountains, and spectacular valleys.

From philim village  the trail leads up and onward towards Lokpa, the first village of Tsum valley. Next, following the rough trail and crossing Shiar Khola, you reach Chumling, also known as Lower Tsum Valley. Enjoying the breathtaking views of Ganesh Himal and passing few beautiful gompas, you get to the  Chhokang Paro village and passing through Lama Gaon, you reach Rachen Gompa. At Lama Gaon, you can visit Milarepa’s Cave, one of the salient features of Tsum Valley Trek. After spending some time in Gompa, you’ll pass through the hamlets of Phurbe, Pangdung, Chhule, and enter into Nile, the last village of the Tsum valley.

From here, passing chortens and mani walls, you’ll head towards largest monastery (Mu gumpa 37oom)  in the Tsum Valley and one of the major attractions in the area.  After discovering the unspoiled history, amazing people, and their culture, lifestyle, and tradition.  You will Following back  the downhill trail, crossing and walking along the bank of Budhi Gandaki River. You will  reach machhakhola  Bazaar and head back to Kathmandu.

Arrival and transfer to Hotel

Preparation for the trek

Preparing for the Tsum Valley Trek requires careful planning and preparations to ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey through this remote and culturally rich region. Pack appropriate gear and equipment for the trek. Some essential items include sturdy hiking boots, comfortable clothing layers, a warm jacket, rain gear, a backpack, a sleeping bag, trekking poles, a first aid kit, and toiletries. Don’t forget to carry sufficient water and snacks.

Drive from Kathmandu – Machha khola(8-9 hrs)

The drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola marks the beginning of the Tsum Valley Trek and takes approximately 8 to 9 hours. The journey begins in the bustling city of Kathmandu and gradually transitions into scenic countryside as you leave the Kathmandu Valley. You’ll pass through picturesque towns, terraced fields, and winding mountain roads, offering glimpses of rural life in Nepal. The drive traverses along the Budhi Gandaki River, with occasional stops for refreshments and breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. Finally, you arrive at Machha Khola, a small riverside village that serves as the starting point for the trek. Machhakhola – Jagat( 8 hrs)
